RISIKO Magazine — Issue 5
Graphic & Editorial Design, Original Illustrations and Cover Artwork for the Independent Magazine
Back in November 2024, RISIKO magazine launched its fifth issue in Berlin — a special film-themed edition celebrating cinema and movie-loving artists.
I had the pleasure of contributing to art direction and graphic design for this issue. I contributed by designing a custom logo of the “BOX” issue from scratch, creating a custom font, editorial & layout design, and cover artwork, as well as creating illustrations inspired by the German countercultural classic Decoder (1984).
Art Direction & Layout Design
The editorial direction for Issue 5 — BOX — explored cinema through a raw, experimental lens. I developed the complete typographic system for the issue, including a custom display font and a bespoke logo that anchors the visual identity.
Custom Typography & Cover Art
The cover artwork draws from the visual language of underground film and print culture. Each spread was designed to feel like a film still — dense with reference, loose in form.
Illustration Series — Inspired by Decoder (1984)
An original illustration series referencing Klaus Maeck’s cult countercultural film, weaving together scenes and iconography from the film alongside the broader world of the magazine’s contributors.
Among the contributors were Wim Wenders, Jim E. Brown, Lemon Twigs, Swans and many more.
